Understanding Climate Change (CC)

What is Climate Change and is it Man Made (Anthropogenic)?

To address these questions, the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions has produced a series of You Tube videos and Tutorial that squarely deal with the misunderstandings of our changing climate.  Here you will learn:

  • What climate change is

  • Is climate change anthropogenic?

  • How it is caused

  • What role do natural influences such as El Nino, and La Nina, or Volcanoes or earth's orbit play

  • How climate models work

Whether you believe climate change is anthropogenic - or it's not,  these tutorials are a must to "Clear the Air" on misconceptions.  'Bite size' videos 2 through 10 listed in the link above will provide easy to understand information that will address the points bulleted above.    Viewing these short important videos will take some time, so don't forget to come back !

There are two components to addressing Climate Change:

  • Mitigation; the strategy for reduction of Green House Gases (GHG); and

  • Adaptation; the strategy for coping with what is already happening due to the changing climate.

The flow chart (right) illustrates the components of Mitigation and Adaptation.

This web site will focus on the "blue arrow" components of Climate Change Adaptation.

However mitigation (reduction) strategies for GHG's (Green House Gases) should not be overlooked.  Mitigation strategies are the key to reducing the dependence on Adaptation.

Some Adaptation Strategies are also Mitigation Strategies.
